Preparing Your Business For ISDN Switch Off

For over 30 years, ISDN has been the most common way to make a phone call. As internet technology overtakes traditional telecommunications as the fastest way to stay in touch with the rest of the world, businesses have started to transition to a new way of making and managing calls: VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol).

Reflecting this change, BT has announced the switch-off of ISDN in 2025, so businesses must start to transition to VoIP to avoid disruption to your communications.

What is ISDN and Why is it Switching Off?

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) has been the main carrier of calls since its launch in 1986. Previously, it was the fastest way to make a call, but the rise of broadband internet connections like DSL, WAN and cable modems have led to the launch of VoIP – a means of making calls via broadband internet on a global scale.

Since ISDN is no longer financially viable for BT to maintain, the carrier has announced that it will switch off ISDN in 2025, giving us plenty of time to implement VoIP technology into our workplaces. VoIP provides so many amazing benefits, including video conferencing, CRM integration and international phone calls without the fees. Ready to switch?
